Sharing sensitive information securely with 1Password
In the course of making your digital marketing stupid easy, there may be times you want us to manage some of your accounts or even make purchases on your behalf. We make this easy using a secure vault in a password management tool called 1Password. This is free and easy for you. Here’s how to to get started.
- You’ll received an email from 1Password telling you that myservices@notreallyrocketscience, our parent company, would like you to join our team. Click the big blue button marked Join your team.
- The button opens a screen that says Welcome to Not Really Rocket Science on 1Password!. Here’s where you’ll start creating your free 1Password management account. Input your full name (first and last), then click Continue.
- Create your Master Password and click Continue. You’ll require that password again immediately in the next step, so keep it handy.
- The next screen, marked Almost there! will automatically populate your email address and ask you to enter your Master Password, which you just created in the previous step. Input your Master Password and click the Sign In button.
- 1Password will now require you to download your “Secret Key”, which is a string of characters automatically created by 1Password, and which you’ll need to use your account on additional devices. 1Password isn’t playing around with keeping your data secure. Click the red Download button.
- Another message will encourage you to Keep it safe. Click the red Got It button.
- Hooray! You’re successfully into the system. Now we’ll receive a notification that you’re a new team member, and we’ll give you access to your vault. We’ll let you know when that’s done with an email. Once you’ve received that email notification from us, jump back to 1password.com and log in.
- Once you’re logged in, with access to your vault, you’ll see your vault listed, named after you or your company. Click your vault.
- Finally you’re ready to share something secure. Click the “+” button at the very bottom of the page to open up a menu of options like Login, secure notes, credit cards and more. Usually we’ll only require Logins or occasionally credit card information. Let’s continue by selecting Login.
- Give this login a sensible title, then share the username and password for whatever this is for. When you’re finished, click the Save button on the lower right corner of the page.
- You can let us know with an email when you’ve added something new, though we’ll see it automatically when you’ve made updates.
